WALL OF HONOR
The Wall of Honor commemorates those individuals of our elderly population who have impacted our lives through their resiliency, dedication to family and commitment to community .
Etheline Harris Thomas
Etheline Harris Thomas is most remembered and revered for her many acts of service. Caring and nurturing, she was the embodiment of Mark 10:45. Whether it was for her family, friends, or strangers, she dedicated her life to taking care of the needs of others. On countless occasions, she opened the doors of her home to those who had a need and consequently transformed the lives of many. As one who loved and lived to help others, she was willing to ignore her own health, if it provided her with another opportunity to serve. On any given day, she could be found cooking meals for the sick, providing transportation to medical appointments, or simply lending a shoulder for one to cry upon. A pillar of strength and virtue, Etheline Harris Thomas willingly gave of herself so that others could experience God’s love on earth. May we, too, follow after her example.
Helen Jean Gainey
Helen Jean Gainey was a quintessential homebody, preferring a simple and relaxing life over a busy one. As the mother of seven, she was family oriented and found great delight in each moment she was able to spend with her husband, children and grandchildren. Every year, she hosted Christmas dinner, opening her home to all and ensuring that everyone who entered received a gift. Having a heart of gold, Helen never forgot a birthday and always expressed her love with a birthday card that included her well-known $5. Planting flowers, fishing and cooking were among her favorite pastimes, all bringing her much fulfillment and happiness. Her legacy of love will continue to live on through her family and friends.
